Tile work in the oldest city
St. Augustine tile jobs split into two worlds. In the historic district and the older neighborhoods — Lincolnville, North City, West Augustine — bathrooms and kitchens sit in houses built long before tile substrates were standardized. In the subdivisions and out toward World Golf Village and the beach, the work is the familiar Northeast Florida mix: shower re-tiles, backsplashes and floor replacements. The setting skill is the same; the prep is not, and the quote is written after a measure for that reason.
What we set in St. Augustine
- Porcelain and ceramic floor tile
- Wall tile and kitchen backsplashes
- Shower floors, walls and curbs when the shower is part of the agreed scope
- Layout planning so cuts land in sensible places
- Removal or surface prep when the existing floor or wall needs it first
Finished work from our jobs is on the projects page. Tile is quoted per job — there is no tile package price; the published $3.99/sq ft on this site is the LVP package in St. Augustine.
Historic homes: prep is the job
In a 1920s bathroom, the tile is the visible 20 percent. The rest is what is behind it: plaster that has to come off or be covered with a proper backer, framing that is out of plumb, and a floor structure that flexes. Tile set over a flexing surface cracks at the grout lines first and the tile second. At the measure we say plainly what the room needs, and the written scope lists it. If a shower is in the scope, waterproofing is discussed at the measure and confirmed on the quote — a shower is never treated like a dry wall.
Patterns that belong in these houses
Hex mosaics, penny rounds and subway tile are not retro novelties here — they are what these houses were built with, and modern porcelain versions are denser and absorb less water than the originals. For a historic bathroom that still has to work as a daily bathroom or a rental, that combination is the honest recommendation: period pattern, modern body.
Rentals and second homes
St. Augustine's rental market means many tile jobs run against a booking calendar. Tile work has built-in pauses — set, cure, grout, seal — so the quote lists the days we are in the house and the day the room returns to service. Give us the open window when you request the measure and we plan inside it.
Scheduling at the south end of coverage
St. Augustine is the southern edge of our regular routes, so measures there are grouped and confirmed when booked; the written quote still follows the measure. The general tile scope is on the Jacksonville tile page, and coverage is listed on service areas.
