The Orange Park tile job: a 1980s bathroom, done right
Clay County's housing stock is heavy on brick ranch homes whose bathrooms still have their original small tile, sheet vinyl or a tub-shower surround from a past decade. The Orange Park tile request is usually a reset: new porcelain floor, a tiled shower instead of a fiberglass unit, a backsplash that finishes the kitchen. Prep on a settled slab and honest demolition pricing are what separate a good quote here from a cheap one.
What we set in Orange Park
- Porcelain and ceramic floor tile
- Wall tile and kitchen backsplashes
- Shower floors, walls and curbs when the shower is part of the agreed scope
- Layout planning so cuts land in sensible places
- Removal or surface prep when the existing floor or wall needs it first
Finished work is on the projects page. The published $3.99/sq ft on this site is the LVP package in Orange Park — tile never uses that rate.
Demolition and the slab under it
Old tile and sheet vinyl come off, and what is underneath decides the prep: a settled slab may need leveling in a low corner; old adhesive has to be dealt with before new setting material bonds. That work is listed on the written quote after the measure. It is also why we do not price Orange Park tile over the phone — two identical-looking bathrooms can need very different prep.
Tub-to-tile showers and bathroom floors
Swapping a fiberglass tub-shower for a tiled shower is the signature job in these homes. The shower is a wet system: waterproofing is discussed at the measure and included when it is part of the agreed scope, confirmed on the quote. Bathroom floors get porcelain — denser and lower-absorption than standard ceramic — with layout planned so cuts fall at walls and cabinets, not in the doorway.
Kitchens: backsplash and the sheet vinyl question
Backsplashes finish most Orange Park kitchen refreshes, and the floor question is usually the old sheet vinyl. Where vinyl is coming up anyway, porcelain tile is the long-life replacement; where the budget points the other way, the LVP package covers kitchens too. We will lay out both options honestly at the measure.
