Carpet removal is $0.50/sq ft — not in the package
Carpet and pad removal are $0.50 per square foot and are not included in the $3.99/sq ft package or the small-room flat prices. When we haul the debris away there is a $400 dumpster fee — you do not need to rent your own. The crew pulls the carpet, the pad and the tack strip along the walls, and removes the staples. On 600 sq ft that is $300 for carpet removal plus $400 for the dumpster, on top of the LVP package.
What is usually under carpet in Jacksonville homes
Most homes here sit on a concrete slab. Under the pad we often find old paint drips, adhesive spots, small cracks and, near sliding doors, the stains of past water. None of this is unusual. What matters for LVP is flatness and moisture. The slab is checked at the free measure and re-checked once the carpet is up. Any leveling goes on the written quote: spot leveling is $75 per bag ($150 minimum), and larger areas use self-leveler at $2.50/sq ft at a 1/4" average ($300 minimum).
Slab moisture and the Plus package
A slab that was covered by carpet for years may never have been checked for moisture. The Plus package ($4.49/sq ft) adds a moisture barrier under the planks and new shoe molding. On ground-floor rooms over concrete, that is the option to ask about. More on why the plank itself handles water is on the waterproof LVP page.
Upstairs rooms on a wood subfloor
Second-floor bedrooms in many Nocatee, Mandarin and St. Johns homes have a plywood or OSB subfloor instead of concrete. After the carpet comes up we check for squeaks, loose panels and high seams. The same rule applies: whatever the floor needs is listed and priced before work starts.
Stairs
Carpeted stairs can be converted too, priced per step at $85–110. Stairs are slower than open floor because every tread and nosing is cut and fitted. Many homeowners do the main floor first and the stairs later. Both options are fine.
Baseboards and gaps
Carpet hides the bottom of the baseboard. With a hard floor, a small expansion gap is left at the walls on purpose, and shoe molding or quarter round covers it. It is $2.99 per linear foot, or included in Plus.
Preparing the house
- Clear small items, decor and anything on the floor of closets
- Large furniture can be moved by the crew at $50/room
- Plan for pets to be away from the work area on install day
- Doors may need trimming if the new floor is taller than the carpet compressed under them; we point this out at the measure
Why Jacksonville homeowners switch
LVP does not hold dust or pet dander the way carpet does, it can be damp-mopped, and it handles sand and wet feet at the beach and pet accidents. It is also the floor in our fixed-price package, with in-stock colors and a written quote within 24 hours. For price scenarios, see the LVP quote examples.
